About the Artists:
Winner of the 2006 Holland America Music Society Competition, violist
Jonathan Vinocour enjoys a varied career as a soloist and chamber
musician. Performances have brought him to venues such as Bostonís Jordan
Hall, Gardner Museum and Sanders Theater, New Yorkís Metropolitan Museum,
Bargemusic, 92nd Street Y and Town Hall, the Freer Gallery and Kennedy
Center in Washington DC and Philadelphiaís Kimmel Center. He has toured
extensively with Musicians from Marlboro, Musicians from Raviniaís Steans
Institute, the International Sejong Soloists and is a frequent guest of
the Boston Chamber Music Society. His festival appearances include
Marlboro, Ravinia, Aspen, Bay Chamber, Prussia Cove and Tanglewood where
he was awarded the Henri Kohn Memorial Prize. These settings have afforded
him the opportunity to collaborate with many of todayís great musicians,
including members of the Cleveland, Guarneri, Juilliard, Mendelssohn, Orion,
and Shanghai Quartets as well as Kim Kashkashian, Jaime Laredo and
Paula Robison. Based out of New York, Jonathan is also a member of the
young ensembles the East Coast Chamber Orchestra (ECCO) and the Koryo
String Quartet, both of which have received critical acclaim for their
engaging performances. As a guest principal, he has performed with the
Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra and Orchestra Ensemble Kanazawa in Japan.
Originally from Rochester, NY, Jonathan completed graduate degrees with
Kim Kashkashian at the New England Conservatory of Music in 2004. Prior to
his studies there, he majored in chemistry at Princeton University where
he graduated with honors and won the Sudler Prize, the university's
highest prize in the arts. His previous teachers include Heidi Castleman
and George Taylor, and he has worked in master classes with Misha Amory,
James Dunham, John Graham, Sam Rhodes, Thomas Riebl, and Karen Tuttle.
