Inside Passages
The Viola in the String Quartet, featuring
Michael Tree and Daniel Avshalomov

At the first event of the 2000-2001 season, NYVS presented eminent quartet players Michael Tree and Daniel Avshalomov in a program entitled Inside Passages. These two eminent violists examined selected excerpts from the quartet literature, played and discussed contrasting phrasings, fingerings and bowings, and answered questions from the audience. Passages were taken from the following string quartets:
