Gspan Viola Concerto
Ignatz Gspan -- Concerto in C for Viola
and Strings. This concerto, in three movements, is a
charming Classical-period work of moderate difficulty that will
satisfy the need for a refreshing solo piece for the performer and
a valuable concerto to study and learn for viola students.
The concerto was discovered by Myron Rosenblum several years ago
during a research grant at the monastery in Seitenstetten, Austria.
Rosenblum has edited the work and also written a small cadenza for
the first movement.
The Gspan Concerto received its first American performance at a
NYVS concert at The Barge in Brooklyn on May 13th. The soloist was
Crista Kende.
The edition is available in two formats:
Piano Reduction with Solo Viola part and cadenza (piano reduction
realized by Richard Lane).
Full Score with Solo Viola part, cadenza, and strings parts (1
each of Violin I, Violin II, Viola, and Cello/Bass).
For information about obtaining one or both sets, contact Myron
Rosenblum, e-mail: roseviola@earthlink.net.
