Roumain - Klap Ur Hands [Remix with Percussion]
The Lark Quartet, Maria Bachmann and Deborah Buck violins;
Kathryn Lockwood, viola and Astrid Schween, cello, are featured on
Klap Ur Handz, a new Endeavor Classics recording. The CD of all
American composers features world premieres by Daniel Bernard
Roumain (DBR) and Paul Moravec, a quartet by Peter Schickele,
as well as never before recorded arrangements of five Gershwin songs.
This Klap Ur Handz recording of an American musical landscape
represents the Lark Quartet's long-time association with new music
and adventuresome programming. The recording includes traditional
string quartet performances and explores a fresh innovative style
with contemporary music including a remix of Daniel Bernard Roumain’s
(DBR) Quartet No. 5 with a hip-hop drum track.
Performing with a unique blend of excitement, individuality,
technical brilliance and an unusually sonorous quartet sound,
the Lark Quartet is critically acclaimed for a strong presence of
each member of the quartet. These performers have combined to
form a "polished and warmly communicative ensemble" that delivers
"a performance of grace, proportion, and burnished brilliance,"
according to Tim Page of the Washington Post.

Nahum / What a Friend: Electric Improvisations on an American Hymn
What a Friend: Electric Improvisations on an American Hymn was
recorded sometime after 4 a.m. on May 31, 2004 following a night
of intense free jazz at New York City's Vision Festival.
Notes:
"Behold, I am against thee. . ."
A few generations after Jonah, the ancient Hebrew prophet Nahum
delivers another message of impending doom to the people of Nineveh,
capitol city of the ancient Assyrian empire. In beautiful language,
but graphic and unsettling terms, Nahum foretells an end to the
Lord's patience with a violent, imperialistic nation. The prophet
predicts a siege, a flood, and the bloody and fiery annihilation
of the Ninevites. Unusually sonic in his imagery, Nahum's oracle
describes galloping warhorses, clattering chariots, clashing swords,
roaring lions, wailing refugees, whirlwinds, storms, and widespread
panic. The prophesy was fulfilled to the letter when Nineveh fell
to the combined forces of the Babylonians, Medes, and Scythians
in 612 BC. Nahum (Annihilation Mix 1.1) channels the essence of
this prophesy through a six-string electric Viper-Viola.
